Meeting 31st October: Print competition – Landscape/Seascape

This Thursday is our first print competition of the season on the topic of Landscape/Seascape. The Judge will be Martin Cooper LRPS. This is a quick and welcome return to landscape specialist Martin, who previously inspired us earlier in the season with his landscape images.

Non-members are welcome to come along for up to 3 taster meetings before joining. All we ask is that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. We meet at St Thomas’ church hall at 7:30 (see map).

Meeting 24th October: Critique evening

This Thursday is an opportunity for members to bring along some images (DPI or print) to explain why they used the particular camera settings or chose that composition and/or to allow critique from the other members to get suggestions on how the image could be improved. It will be an informal, supportive and non-competitive environment where members can give their valued opinions.

Members can bring along up to 6 images (DPI or print), if DPI the images can be emailed to Kevin or brought on a USB stick etc.

Meeting 26th September: “Now You See It, Now You Don’t”

This Thursday we have a presentation entitled “Now You See It, Now You Don’t” by Martin Cooper LRPS, which is a talk in three parts. As a photographer mainly specialising in landscape and elements of the landscape, Martin’s talk consists of such images in colour, mono and abstract/impressionist form.

Meeting 19th September – Technical workshop

This Thursday our Chairman Kevin Crosbie presents a technical workshop on DSLRs/mirrorless cameras and their various features, settings etc. Hopefully new members will find the session useful and for the existing members it will be a good reminder of some of the functions and settings that we might have forgotten about.

Reminder: Submissions are due by Thursday for the first DPI Competition of the season – the category is Open.

Non-members are always welcome to come along for up to 3 of taster sessions – it’s just £2 at the door for these sessions. We meet at St Thomas’s church Hall in Trowbridge on Thursdays at 7:30pm (see map).

Meeting 12th September – Welcome meeting

Thursday 12th September is our first meeting of the new season. During the evening we will outline the new programme, review the changes to competition groups, scoring and subscription model.

There will also be an opportunity for members to show images entitled “My Summer ”. Members can bring along a selection of their best images taken during the summer break (DPI or PRINT).

Subscriptions are due – £60 Annual Subscription and don’t forget there is a £2 attendance fee for each meeting this season.

Meeting 25th April: Awards and review of the season

This Thursday is out last meeting of the season where we will have a review of the season and present awards.

There will also be an opportunity for members to show their images from the light painting photo session from a fortnight ago. For anyone who was not there and was inspired to do their own light painting or experimental photography at home, please bring them along to show.

Meeting 18th April: Exploring Street, Landscape, and Colour Through Photography

This Thursday John Beeching with give us a presentation on Exploring Street, Landscape, and Colour Through Photography. John lives in Frome and is a former academic at the University of Bath. He has lived and travelled extensively across the globe, and his photographic journey is characterised by his dedication to capturing the essence of moments through his lens. His subjects are diverse, and he will present street scenes, landscapes, and the interplay of colour. John has a website https://johnbeeching.com/work.

John’s presentation is not a lecture but a conversation. He will share what inspired him in each shot and his techniques to capture it. By delving into the nuances of his photos, he will offer insights into what sparked his interest in each scene and the methods he employed to bring his vision to life. This interactive session is designed to engage you in his creative process.

John’s style may suit all, but his unscripted delivery approach offers a chance to learn first-hand about his creative process. The presentation promises to be an engaging session that will inform and inspire without any unnecessary frills.
