Meeting 6th February: Members evening

Wendy Evans will give a presentation on “How to get your work published in magazines and books”. Wendy works for a magazine publisher and in that role selects and commissions readers to have their images published. Having judged competitions in London and had 13 books published, Wendy is well placed to talk about this different and intriguing aspect of photography.


As always non-members are welcome to come along for up to 3 taster meetings before joining. All we ask is that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. For any new members that do join at this time in the season a pro rata discount will be applied to the membership fee. We meet at St Thomas’ church hall at 7:30 (see map).

Meeting Thursday 30th January 2025

This week it’s competition judging time again. We are pleased to welcome back Eddy Lane to judge our second print competition, subject Flora and Fauna. Eddy and his wife Pam are an accomplished wildlife photographers and previous presenter and judge for our competitions.


As always non-members are welcome to come along for up to 3 taster meetings before joining. All we ask is that you pay the £2 entrance fee for those 3 evenings. Meeting 23rd January: Grand Auction Night

This Thursday we are holding a Grand Auction Night! All of us have photographic gear lying around that we no longer need. This will be an opportunity to pass it onto your fellow club members. Not limited to cameras and lenses, items for auction can include small accessories e.g. mounts, books, camera bags, tripods etc. In fact anything photography related. There will also be an entirely optional opportunity to donate a % of any sale to club funds.


There will also be some items that the Club will be selling off – all of the proceeds from these items will go into Club funds.

Meeting 16th January: Annual General Meeting (AGM)

This Thursday is the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). We would encourage all members to attend to discuss the future of the club and vote on Committee Members.


Please consider if you would like to contribute to the club by offering to be a Committee Member and/or take on one of the key administrative roles. (Chair Person, Print Secretary, Programme Secretary etc.)

Submissions are due for Print Competition 2 – “Flora & Fauna”. We have revised rules to allow up to 4 colour entries rather than the normal 2 colour, 2 mono.

Competition Award

The club gained a highly commended in the WCPF Kingswood Salver competition 2024 for our panel “Designed by Nature”

Meeting 9th January: Members Evening – “My Favourite Photographers”

This Thursday will be a Members Evening entitled “My Favourite Photographers”. Club members Nick, Jill and Jane will present a selection of  images taken by photographers that inspire and influence their photographic style. The evening is also open to all other members who would like to contribute by bringing some images that similarly inspire them.

Next meeting 2nd January: Online members meeting (Zoom)

There will not be a meeting this Thursday as it will be Boxing Day. Our next meeting on 2nd January will be online (Zoom),so please don’t turn up at the hall. This will be a members meeting to get us back in the swing of things. Members can show us their Christmas photos – your Turkeys (and all the trimmings), tasteless Christmas jumpers and over the top decorations. There may even a prize for the photo that best encapsulates “The Spirit of Christmas”.

Meeting 18th December: Christmas social

There will be no meeting in the hall on Thursday night (19th December) instead we will be having our Christmas social on Wednesday 18th, which will be a meal at the Farmhouse Inn at Southwick. We will be meeting in the bar from 7pm, ready to sit down at the table for 7:45pm.


Once again we will be having a quiz to entertain us, although George is keeping quite about the topic. Don’t forget to wear your Christmas jumpers!

This Thursday we will be holding an Enprint competition for the Dicks Trophy. Enprints are a smaller print format – 6″x4″ or 7″x5″. This will be an open topic, so anything goes – it could be some of your older snaps or photos for a bit of fun, or perhaps images with impact.


Bring your prints (6″x4″ or 7″x5″) on the night (4 maximum) – no need for mounting, just write the title and your Membership number on the back. The winner will be judged by the members.
